"La Pasionaria" was the nickname of Dolores Ibárruri, a Basque Communist leader during the Spanish Civil War. With the same commitment and passion of "La Pasionaria," the songs collected here, including deeply personal odes to his late mother, the composer Valentina Montoya Martinez and the political activist Sola Sierra, pay homage to the private and public lives of women within and outside of continent, and illustrate the struggles in everyday life.
The album brings together two areas of the repertoire of the renowned chamber group from Scotland, 'Mr McFall's Chamber' and the Songs of Valentina Montoya Martinez, telling stories of his native Chile and of living in exile, as well as songs andinstrumental interludes by Astor Piazzolla, in "Maria de Buenos Aires', a composition where the character of Mary is represented by the tango itself.
