Tinalley String Quartet is thrilled to once again release on the Decca Classics Australia label, this time featuring Mendelssohn's first two published string quartets, Opus 12 and 13, along with a collection of Mendelssohn Lieder - arranged by Australian composer Calvin Bowman for string quartet and soprano, featuring the powerful and expressive voice of Greta Bradman.
Written when Mendelssohn was just 18 and 20 years, the Opus 12 and 13 Quartets are beautifully lyrical, and fuelled with passion and vivacity. The flavours of the period strongly permeate these works, and yet his voice is one that is unique and progressive. It is with such joy that the Tinalley String Quartet explores these pillars of the quartet repertory.
"As interpreters, the Tinalley players are showing consistency of purpose, evident in slow movements in which the ensemble constructed involving dialogues" - The Age
"This was an engrossing and entertaining evening which worked handsomely. The first half was devoted to a performance of Mendelssohn's Second Quartet, the A Minor Op. 13 and Tinalley were in scintillating form" - Limelight Magazine (on the quartet's live performance of Mendelssohn's String Quartet No. 2 in A minor, Op. 13)
