The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra present their hotly anticipated 2014 Christmas album, 'A Celtic Christmas,' starring brilliant countertenor Maximilian Riebl and the Brandenburg Choir.
A Celtic Christmas is the live recording of the Brandenburg’s 2013 Noël! Noël! Christmas concert at City Recital Hall Angel Place. Featuring a fusion of styles and instruments, songs and melodies, some haunting, some religious, some folky, some festive, but always beautiful.
The ABO's annual Christmas concerts have become a staple of Australia's festive calendar, and the 2013 performances – recorded live and presented on this new album – were among the most popular ever. Combining atmospheric Celtic music with Christmas favourites, the album presents 'a fusion of a 21st-century Australian style on period instruments, happily sitting side by side with current modern instruments such as the saxophone,' says artistic director Paul Dyer. 'It breathes beautifully with the sounds of tin whistles, border pipes, cornetto and Hümmelchen (German bagpipes), fiddles, drums, Irish tunes and Celtic languages.'
CD also features Maximilian Riebl, one of the finest countertenors of the new generation, in a series of spectacular performances including a stunning Over the Rainbow.
