Australian violinist, conductor and composer Richard Tognetti has established an international reputation for his compelling performances and artistic individualism. In this new album from ABC Classics, he takes on three of the classical greats: Bach, Beethoven and Brahms.

Ludwig van Beethoven's mighty Violin Concerto is a favourite with audiences around the world, and Tognetti brings out the music's lyrical beauty and depth in this live recording of the Concerto's passionate first movement, released here on CD for the first time. In the opening movement of Johannes Brahms's Symphony No. 1, he leads the Australian Chamber Orchestra in a performance of unforgettable energy and excitement, full of storm and sunshine.

Tognetti's genius for the music of Johann Sebastian Bach has been recognised with three ARIA Awards, and this album features selected highlights from those award-winning performances: the eloquent A minor Violin Concerto, again with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, and three sublime movements from Bach's violin sonatas, with world-renowned Baroque specialists Neal Peres Da Costa and Daniel Yeadon.

****

“Tognetti’s way with the concerto is admirable. Without sounding rushed, he keeps it moving while retaining the monumental grandeur. His is an unfailingly sweet-toned reading with plenty of animation.” Greg Keane
