This “Hommage à Vivaldi” CD showcases Vivica Genaux and early-music ensemble Bach Consort Wien conducted by Rubén Dubrovsky in poignant sacred works by Antonio Vivaldi (1678–1741). The recording features the motets In turbato mare irato, RV 627, and Sum in medio tempestatum, RV 632, the famous psalm setting Nisi Dominis, Vivaldi’s most penetrating and artistically ambitious psalm setting for solo voice as well as Kyrie in G minor, RV 587, and Credo in E minor, RV 591. With this album, Genaux underscores her reputation as one of the world’s most in demand Baroque singers and interpreters of vocal music by Vivaldi: “Her coloraturas seem to be born of the wind, her embellishments whispered by the Baroque itself,” writes the German weekly Die Zeit.
